Thinking of moving to Greenville, NC?
Tar River/University Neighborhood is THE BEST place to live!
The Tar River/University neighborhood, adjacent to a college campus and Downtown Greenville, North Carolina, is a desirable place to live. The neighborhood is filled with charming, well-built homes located in an historic district within easy walking distance of the East Carolina University campus and Downtown Greenville. Our location makes the neighborhood very appealing to families, faculty, retirees, and students.
As a major university, ECU offers the academic, cultural, and sporting events associated with a traditional college campus. Faculty, staff, and students can walk to offices, classes, recreation center, cultural events, and libraries along shady, tree-lined streets. Residents and neighbors benefit from having a variety of entertainment options from the School of Theatre and Dance, School of Music, and School of Art and Design.
In addition to ECU's main campus, we are proud to have various community assets located in our area including Cypress Glen Retirement Community, St. Peter Catholic Church, St. Peter Catholic School, St. James United Methodist Church, St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Wahl-Coates Elementary, and the historic Rotary Building.
In Downtown Greenville and the Dickinson Avenue Arts District, there are many fantastic restaurants, taprooms, shops, galleries, and local events as well as the main branch of the local public library. A nearby greenway offers a walking and biking trail that connects to a local park. The neighborhood off-leash dog park is very popular for our furry friends.
As an active neighborhood association, TRUNA serves and promotes the neighborhood through its various activities.
Experience the diversity of professional, student and faculty friends and neighbors in a beautiful and safe place to live!

“I love it. I love the diversity of people. I like living in a neighborhood close to the university and in one with the students. When they are good neighbors, and most are, they are fun… You can walk downtown to restaurants, bars and events… You can walk to sporting events and performances at ECU.”
A Neighborhood You Can WALK
Living in the TRUNA area means enjoying a truly walkable neighborhood. Residents can easily walk to a variety of local restaurants, shops, entertainment venues, churches, and public parks, making everyday errands and leisure activities convenient and accessible.
The neighborhood also offers direct access to outdoor recreation, including public tennis and pickleball courts and Greenville's only off-leash dog park, creating opportunities to stay active, connect with neighbors, and enjoy the outdoors without relying on a car.

“It’s a vibrant neighborhood, with access to the dining, artistic and entertainment opportunities of a city along with the culture, education and diversity found on a major campus. The off-leash dog park is beautiful and safe. Jogging, biking and walking on the Greenway is the BEST!”
