WHO WE ARE

The Tar River-University Neighborhood Association (TRUNA) is a resident-led nonprofit organization serving one of Greenville, North Carolina's most established and centrally located neighborhoods. Our community sits directly between East Carolina University, Downtown Greenville, and the Tar River, offering a unique blend of urban access, historic character, and outdoor connectivity via the Greenville Greenway system.

TRUNA represents and advocates for residents, homeowners, renters, and local stakeholders within the Tar River-University neighborhood. We are committed to preserving the neighborhood's livability, strengthening community relationships, and promoting responsible growth that benefits both current residents and future generations.

OUR NEIGHBORHOOD

The TRUNA neighborhood is geographically defined by:

  • North: Tar River
  • East: Cemetery Road
  • South: Tenth Street
  • West: Reade Circle

This central location places our community within walking and biking distance of ECU, downtown businesses, cultural venues, and public green spaces — while maintaining the feel of a residential neighborhood rooted in long-term community pride.

COMMUNITY ADVOCACY & ENGAGEMENT

TRUNA actively serves as a voice for the neighborhood by:

  • Advocating for residents on issues related to zoning, development, infrastructure, and public services
  • Encouraging owner occupancy and long-term neighborhood investment
  • Hosting social, beautification, and community-building events
  • Partnering with city officials, institutions, and community organizations

Information about household membership opportunities is available on our Membership page.

LEADERSHIP & GOVERNANCE

TRUNA is governed by dedicated neighborhood volunteers who generously contribute their time, skills, and professional expertise to support the organization's mission and operations. Serving in leadership roles as officers, board members, and committee chairs, these residents work collaboratively to represent the interests of the neighborhood, promote responsible decision-making, and ensure TRUNA remains responsive, transparent, and community-driven.
